Who supports us
NOT SHUT UP received initial encouragement from the Writers In Prison Network, and funds from Arts Council England, our major supporter for the first three years. We have also received support in the past from the Batty Trust, the David Hammond Charitable Foundation, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Garden Court, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the City & Metropolitan Welfare Fund, the Mercer’s Company, and the Tudor Trust.
More recently we have gained support from the following:
Anton Jurgens Charitable Trust
Authors’ Licensing & Collecting Society
Coutts Charitable Trust
Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust
The Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation
The Jessie Spencer Trust
J Paul Getty Jr. Charitable Trust
The Lady Hind Trust
LankellyChase Foundation
The Leigh Trust
The 29 May 1961 Trust
Royal London Society
The Swan Mountain Trust
The Topinambour Trust
W.F.Southall Trust
Writers In Prison Network
Our thanks also to Jeffrey
Archer, who sponsors our prizes.
We gratefully acknowledge all this help for a project that, by its nature, cannot easily generate income. We endeavour to operate as efficiently as we can – we do not, for example, run an office and all those who work for the project are freelance and hired as and when needed.
We also receive crucial support “in kind” from the prisons and other secure settings who facilitate workshops, distribute our magazines, and give clearance to us for inmates’ work to be published.
